We are excited to share the publication of a new article on Devex titled "Soccer and Science: Can Global Health Learn from FIFA’s Benefit-Sharing?". This piece highlights our work with the Paris Peace Forum on developing a compensation mechanism to incentivize early pandemic warnings.
Drawing inspiration from FIFA’s solidarity mechanism, the proposal aims to recognize and reward scientists in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) for sharing critical genetic sequencing data essential for pandemic preparedness. By aligning global health benefit-sharing with this model, we hope to create financial incentives that strengthen early warning systems, enhance global cooperation, and improve pandemic response efforts.
A detailed concept paper on this proposal is also available in Health Affairs Scholar.
