Please see this recent study by Mechanick et al on the importance of prevention and treatment of underlying conditions as a mitigation strategy for severe Covid 19. This is a rallying call for Universal Health Coverage and targeting underserved populations who don’t have access to primary care. Explains a lot about why death rates in the US are so much higher than elsewhere and why this is hitting underserved populations in the US so hard.
